A powerful explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing nine people and injuring 20 others. The death toll rose to 12 on Tuesday, with three more people succumbing to injuries, police said.
On Tuesday, the Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, invoking sections related to conspiracy and execution of a terror attack. Multiple raids were carried out across the national capital after preliminary findings suggested a link between the Delhi blast and the terror module uncovered in Faridabad.
The national capital has been placed on high alert, with intensified security checks at airports, railway stations and bus terminals. Police teams are also maintaining a close watch on hotels, guest houses and border entry points.
Three doctors, Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather from Qazigund, Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganai from Pulwama, and Dr Shaheen Saeed, have been arrested in connection with the Kashmir-Faridabad-Delhi terror case.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a dire warning from Bhutan on Tuesday, saying, “Our agencies will go to the root of this conspiracy. Those who plotted this will not be spared. All those responsible will be brought to justice.”
