A tragic incident from Ambedkar Konaseema district’s Rajolu area has shocked the local community. A woman is battling serious injuries in hospital after her husband allegedly tried to kill her when she confronted him about his relationship with another woman.
According to the police, Durga Prasad and his wife, Naga Durga, residents of Tatipaka Matham village in Rajolu mandal, have been married for nearly 13 years. Recently, the wife alleged that her husband had an affair with another woman and had begun harassing her.
The situation escalated when Naga Durga visited a private hospital and found her husband there with the woman he was allegedly involved with. She confronted him on the spot. Instead of responding to her accusations, Durga Prasad defended the other woman and told his wife to “go home” and that he would speak to her later, she told the media.
Later that night, after returning home, Durga Prasad allegedly attacked his wife. The victim said he beat her severely and then pressed a pillow over her face in an attempt to suffocate her. She said she struggled to breathe and feared she would die.
Her cries for help alerted neighbours, who rushed to the house. Their quick response likely saved her life, she said, expressing deep distress while recalling the incident.
Badly injured, Naga Durga went straight to the Rajolu police station and filed a complaint. Police have registered a case and shifted her to the government hospital for treatment, where she is currently recovering.
“Is it a crime to question my husband? Should I be killed for it?” she said tearfully, asking police for protection.
The incident, which surfaced late, has triggered strong reactions locally. Many have condemned the violence and demanded strict legal action against the accused.
